30 Apr Reflecting on a Fruitful Summer and Exciting Plans Ahead as Winter Sets In
As winter starts to wrap her blanket around us in South Africa we are grateful to look back on a very blessed and fruitful summer season in various parts of our business. In this short letter, I would like to tell you more about these and also share some of the plans we have for the upcoming months.
Abundance
You will remember me telling you about the great blessings in rain that we received after a lengthy drought in our area, plenty of rain means the veld can produce food that nurtures better than in dry seasons. Enough food gives the animals the freedom to repopulate more than usual and we have really experienced this with our Giraffe herd growing from four animals to seven and our newly acquired Sable also pitched in with a lot of younglings. Pure joy! All the animals on our property has been busy and we are privileged to have seen and experienced some awe inspiring moments; unsteady legs learning to walk and youngsters bouncing around, annoying the grown-ups. It seems that the rains will continue this rainy season since we have had already had some good showers. With the hurricane that past over our coastline earlier this Fall we had some serious volumes of water that caused flash floods that a little bit of chaos and a lot of challenges. The flooding of some storage areas, Game drive roads and hiking trails washing out. But in true Wildehondekloof fashion the team has cleared all and is rebuilding roads.
All will be back on track in no time!
New Team members and new skills
As a team we have also grown and improved. We have welcomed Morney Malgas into the fold; he will be managing the front of house and restaurant to give more freedom to our Field team to enable the to make yours an unforgettable experience. In the Kitchen Andre has done some training on cooking with specialized Fynbos Salts and Oils. Expect an extraordinary culinary experience.
On the road again
When winter starts we get a chance to go and say hello to old friends and make new ones by means of marketing tours. This year we will be sending Paula and Danielle to Indaba in Durban to tell all who want to hear about the wonderful treasures of the Klein Karoo (and of course Wildehonde Kloof and De Zeekoe).
